What are CDM Regulations?
The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, commonly known as CDM Regulations, set out the legal requirements for managing health, safety, and welfare on construction projects in the UK. They apply to all building and construction work, from small domestic projects to major commercial developments.
What do CDM Regulations mean in Health & Safety?
The CDM Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015) are a key piece of UK health and safety law. They:
- Define the roles and responsibilities of duty holders (clients, designers, contractors, principal designers, principal contractors, and workers).
- Require effective planning, coordination, and risk management throughout construction projects.
- Apply to all construction projects, regardless of size or duration, including repairs, maintenance, and demolition.
They are enforced by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), and non-compliance can result in enforcement action, fines and prosecution.
